What an incredibly charming and moving little book. It details the daily life of Slim Green as he weaves his way through the landscape (a map is is shown at the beginning of the book), trying to avoid Marsh Hawk, the yapping dog Rowdy, and other potential predators, while trying to find caterpillars to eat, sunny basking spots, and a crevice in which to hibernate. When Marsh Hawk snatched Slim and flew away with him, I honestly almost started crying. I won't provide any spoilers, so you'll have to read it yourself. I'll just say that this book impressed this lifelong reptile / nature geek (who has no children), so I think anyone and everyone would enjoy it. ( )
