From the back: The First-graders of Robin Hill School love to look at all the different fall leaves. When they hear that in some states the leaves don’t change color; they come up with a plan to share fall with other first-graders.

Mine: My youngest nephew is sorting through his early books. He’s going to donate them to the local used book store, but in the mean time we are going to try to read them before they go. I love reading with my nephews

What a cute story about sharing with others that don’t have the same things as you. The teacher in the story is also trying to teach the children about other states, so there is geography involved. It’s also about the seasons of the year (Fall).

When Mrs. Connor informs her class of first-graders that not all children in other states share their experience of leaves turning colors in the fall, the children ask if they can send them some! Soon, the entire class is outside finding their favorite fall colored leaves. Once gathered, they work together to write to a class of first-graders far away, glueing leaves, wrapping, packing, licking stamps and finally mailing the box. The excited class of students receiving the leaves artfully decorate their classroom with their autumn gift, writing a lovely thank-you note in return. This level 1 easy-reader repeats words for deeper comprehension, uses familiar sight words and simple sentences, along with a story line and illustrations that tap into every young child's desire to gather brightly colored fall leaves. The message encouraging children to share with others, is a timeless one which adults will desire to see instilled in children. Highly recommended. Ages 6-7. ( )

Kearsten says: This was another nice story. Mrs. Connor begins a lesson on leaves, and how they change during the fall, but only in some areas. When she mentions that there are some states in which the leaves don't change colors, the class decides to share some of their leaves with them.

A good read for a 1st grader, about sharing, generosity and leaves! ( )
