A well plotted and twisty little thriller ( )

Not sure why I couldn't get into this book. I think I just wasn't in the mood. I might try it again later, because I really loved Mystic River.

Aaaahhh.... This was exactly what I needed after a reading slump that lasted months. This is the first book I've read by Lehane (though I did watch--and love--the Shutter Island movie), and I was delighted to find a captivating plot, great characterization, and twists galore. If all his books are like this, I may have found a new favorite author!

I love psychological thrillers in general, but this was a cut above the rest. Rachel is a fabulous protagonist: vulnerable, flawed, yet strong and resilient. And I have to admit I fell madly in love with Brian and I was rooting for him even when things started to look pretty grim. I would absolutely LOVE a sequel to this amazing book! ( )

A protagonist you start despising and come to love.
The young woman who is the protagonist starts as not too appealing - entrapped by panic attacks. With help she gradually gets better and finally grows into a strong and capable person.
There are scams within scams - but in the end it is a story about salting a mine. ( )

let the bodies fall

The bleak, shocking life of a traumatized reporter is renewed when she falls in love. Twists and turns in her journey to recover her purpose for living come from unexpected sources. ( )
