Not really my kind of book, you see. ;) I'm really starting to enjoy Rant. It's a little strange, but it is definately entertaining me. However, I left it at Missy's house. It's an hour away. So I won't be reading it for a couple days.

57. Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey by Chuck Palahniuk - finished 7/24/09
Despite what criticisms I've had of Palahniuk, I really ended up enjoying Rant and ... Yesterday, I finished The Ceremonies, which was really good. I also finished up the audiobook of Rant. Despite some hiccups, it's probably one of my favorite Palahniuks so far.
Today, I started The Master and Margarita. Update on Rant:

It struck me today that even though the novel is structured as a biography of Buster "Rant" Casey, I feel a little confused as to why anybody felt any particular interest in writing a biography of this person. Rant has these out-sized personality traits that are pretty extreme ... ... for people who find William Burroughs' works to be a little too straightforward.
I'm about done (I think9 with Rant, which has had its ups and downs. It was actually pretty intriguing for a while, but I've sort of hit this point of, Tell me again why anyone would write a biography ... I'm going to start reading Rant so I can get that back to my friend before he goes off to school. But I also need to read my ER book so I can write a review! ... themes to Da Vinci Code or Angels and Demons, but is better written. Anyway, it's a lot of fun.
I've still got Rant on audiobook. I have to give Palahniuk props for the chapters on boosted peaks and party crashing, which is where the book gets really into its science fiction phase. ... Update on Rant:
I've heard some people refer to Chuck Palahniuk as this generation's Vonnegut. Personally, I'd say it's too early to call but I can see some of the parallels. One really big difference, though: Vonnegut writes like on old man, like someone weary beyond his years and ... I'm in a Middleton, a small town in Middle America where Buster "Rant" Casey has been bitten by a (radioactive) spider. I'm also in Russia with Yakov Petrovich in Dostoevsky's The Double. ... I think it's supposed to be a comedy, but I'm finding it downright depressing. I hope it picks up soon.
I've also got Rant on audiobook. I'd say it's about average so far for Palahniuk works. It has his usual flaws (poor pacing and characterization) but it's kind of fun to see the usual P ... ... to read more today, instead opting to start something new. (But I only have 30 pages left, so I am not giving up.)

Glad you're liking Palahniuk - have read them all except the last 3 (Rant,Snuff and Pygmy - my favorite was Survivor... just love his "voice" - I've had plenty of weird looks on public transportation because I was in the midst of a particularly rich passage and I'm ... ... Choke at any of the 8 libraries that I can access?! The only ones they have is Haunted, Fight Club, Pygmy, Snuff, Rant, Stranger Than Fiction, Lullaby and Survivor. {RANT February should be promounced FEB-RU-ARY, not Feb-u-ary.

A fun, strange, imaginative wholly enjoyable science fictionish black comedy that becomes stranger and more surreal as you go along and the ... I'm about halfway through Rant by Chuck Palahniuk. It's my first book by Palahniuk and I'm enjoying it a lot. A black comedy, laugh out loud funny from time to time, disturbing more often, but always astounding in terms of Palahnuik's imagination.

I think RANT would make a pretty cool movie IF they got the right screenwriter and director for it. Whoever did Fight Club could do Rant I think. Chuck Palahniuk is always brilliant - can't remember them now but in Choke and Rant I recall being instantly hooked by the conversational style of the openings. I think the problem with having something too concise and catchy is that it could become cliche, maybe applicable to the above ... I just finished reading Rant by Chuck Palahniuk. My review is In the Shadow of Mt. TBR. Very weird book, but I really liked it. There's a lot in it that makes you wonder about humanity, our government, time ... I'm still about a fourth of the way through < ... #210 - I read Rant last summer and I was thoroughly grossed out in several places. At least I thought so, until I picked up Snuff just recently. I should have known - the premise of the book is that a porn star is doing a stunt in which she does 600 guys. Palahniuk describes the bathroom ... ... reading outloud to my 9-year-old as we sat in the restaurant waiting for our food, I also started reading Palahniuk's Rant today. The best word to describe it is weird. I don't understand the daylighter and nightlighter thing nor the partycrasher. And *gag* the whole "sex ... ... still wearing holey shoes.

I am something of a Palahniuk fan already, and I will say this: I was rather disappointed at first. Palahniuk ... 2007, I picked 150 books to read. However, the last Harry Potter book completely ruined things for me and I had to desire to pick up another book until recently. You can give up on Rant and not miss much. Palahniuk's retreading themes he's already covered and just upping the grossness factor. The attempt to tell the story in small flashbacks doesn't create any richness. Just some clever sentences here and there. I thought this about ... Last night I started Rant by Chuck Palahniuk.
