Farmer is great. He made Tarzan real. Excellent. It's been far too long since I read this & having recently re-read [b:Tarzan of the Apes|40425|Tarzan of the Apes (Tarzan, #1)|Edgar Rice Burroughs|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1169434153s/40425.jpg|1774048] & [b:The Return of Tarzan Tarzan Series #2 |6614775|The Return of Tarzan Tarzan Series #2 (Vol 2)|Edgar Rice Burroughs|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51K3DZ16X4L._SL75_.jpg|6808846], it's time to read [a:Philip José Farmer|10089|Philip José Farmer|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1234714074p2/10089.jpg]'s take on it again. If you were crazy & could find a big, closed off valley to raise your own Tarzan in, what would he be like? Well, here's your chance to find out. ( )

It’s an intriguing work with a powerful and well executed premise, and Farmer is clearly an excellent writer, but if you’re looking for an easy read you will not find it here. Having not read the original Tarzan stories, it’s impossible to say if this is better or worse than those. However, if you can set aside the time to read it, it’s well worth a look.
