Incorporating original, never-before-published material from 007 creator Ian Fleming, New York Times bestselling author Anthony Horowitz returns literary legend James Bond to his 1950s heyday in this exhilarating and dashing thriller.

The world's most famous spy, James Bond, has just returned victorious from his showdown with Auric Goldfinger in Fort Knox. Picked this up from a Little Free Library, not because I'm a huge Bond fan, but more of an Anthony Horowitz fan. I've really enjoyed his other books and styles (and his TV shows) so wanted to see what this was like. Again, not being much of a Bond fan (I've only ever seen a few of the movies and haven't read any Ian Fleming); having said that, this reads like a Bond movie. Mr Horowitz does seem to get the style down. This probably is fairly similar in style to what Mr. Fleming would do, though probably a little less misogyny. It was a good read, but probably not going to go out of my way to read more of this series. Back to the Little Free Library this goes. ( )

Newly written but for a Bond of an earlier time. Resurrecting old characters. A good story. Something you would read after Goldfinger. ( )

I think Ian Fleming's estate chose Anthony Horowitz wisely to entrust with some story fragments, perhaps meant for another book or omitted from the final version of Goldfinger. This James Bond story, starts with James together with Pussy Galore, who has escaped to London with him. True to the lifestyle Bond leads, he is selected to save a British car racer from a Russian (SMERSH) sanction by entering into a very challenging professional race. He is quickly embroiled in a case involving the death of a German-born scientist working on the American space effort, and competing with an American woman to understand the involvement of a Korean businessman (nicknamed Jason Sin) in the plots. I like his two other series (Alex Rider, which is great boy early teen reading and the Gatekeeper) better than this, in part because I found the Bond character inconsistent, perhaps because Horowitz has a different vision then Fleming. I liked the inclusion of the original Ian Fleming work. That was a nice touch. Glad the estate is still seeking to give us more Bond, James Bond!!! ( )
