44 months - I found this book hard to read as I like to explore each page and the text on it. This book contains a story about the cat (which is often partial sentences on a page and continues on the next) but also a non-fiction element of the bird names and sounds they make. The story becomes confused or disjointed if you stop to talk about the different bird as we did instead of just whipping through the story from start to finish. And if you do just follow the story then you're missing out on a great learning opportunity. I'd recommend reading many times in different ways. We always enjoy this author's illustrations and general style. ( )

Talk a little bit about feathers before reading.
Explain that some animals have fur but
birds have feathers to keep them warm

"Our first book is a story about a cat who tries to catch
a bird for lunch, but all he gets is feathers.

While the cat is out looking for lunch he spots a bunch of birds in the garden that he could eat. The problem is that the cat cant reach any of the birds so all she can have for lunch are the feathers. This book is good for a classroom of lower elementary because it teaches good vocab and knowledge of animals.
