The phrases most read in this book is "poor kitten," but I have to tell you like any cat owner (I currently have an 8-month-old kitten) - kittens are dumb and this kitten was no exception. So it wasn't so much "poor kitten" but "haha kitten" for me. So this book was FUNNY to me when I think it is more about "things are not always what they appear" "don't follow your stomach" "animals are silly" but I read this as "oh crap - my cat might actually get lost trying to follow the moon because it looks like a big bowl of milk." This was cute and definitely felt like being inside the mind of a cat. I think kids could get a lot of enjoyment out of it, especially on a night with a full moon. ( )

In this story, the little kitten is trying to make its way to what it thinks is a bowl of milk in the sky. Springing from the stairs, running through the grass, and climbing a tree in attempts to reach it, eventually ending up all wet, poor kitty! This is beautifully written, simple, and introduces just the right amount of new vocabulary for young readers i.e. inquisitive, persistent, sprang. This is a sweet story, with beautiful illustrations. ( )
