Professeur émérite d'histoire contemporaine à l'université de Tours, Michèle Cointet a écrit de nombreux ouvrages sur la Résistance, la collaboration et le gaulisme ; plusieurs ont été couronnés, notamment par l'Académie française. Elle a reçu en 2012 le grand prix Ouest-France/Société générale pour sa Nouvelle Histoire de Vichy (Fayard).
