Just trying to keep up with my 8-year old grandson, Anderson. Basically, this is a "graphic novel" about a cop who is half man, half dog who roots out crime, mostly as perpetrated by Petey the Cat. Something like that. Lots of potty humor that's appealing to young boys.

The pee and poo jokes are appropriate for the age range and seem to be what most people harp upon. I've never batted an eye at those in comics, T.V and media perhaps, but comics are all kinds of zany, and this one is no different. The majority of deals broken comes from page 129 I believe, as hand-on-poo contact broke many people but just fit with the idea a world without reading and books would be a dull and dumb one.

Over all this book was a nice read and very predictable, perfect for young kids. I could see how read it was from the library tatterings on flip-o-rama pages and tattered edges around Petey's scenes. Truly a fun book. Especially the parts with hot dogs and real dogs!

Highly recommend! ( )

With the body of a man and the head of a dog, Dog Man is like no other police officer you've ever seen! He manages to save the day many times despite -- or perhaps because of -- his unusual abilities and interests, like licking bones and playing with squeaky balls. This is especially important with multiple villains in this title, including series regular Petey the cat, a flat version of Petey, and an impostor Petey all running around committing crimes.

I picked this book up because all children seem to love the series so much and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It is as described in the book itself "just a bunch of mindless action and dumb luck!" However, all that adventure and humor is just the sort of thing that kids need sometimes. I must admit to getting quite a few chuckles out of this book as I read it. Pilkey's "flip o rama" action pages are peppered throughout, along with "how to draw" backmatter, which are an added appeal. ( )
