Set in the French Belle Époque, this novel is a masterpiece of fin-de-siècle aesthetics. The affable and talkative Monsieur de Bougrelon is a French expatriate living in Amsterdam, an old dandy who lies forgotten in the midst of a century defined by luxury and vices. (more)
