A pirate lives with his aunt, but won't invite her or his parrot to any of his rowdy pirate parties. So the aunt throws a party of her own, and takes off (with the parrot) on his pirate ship, leaving him to clean the house. Classic Margaret Mahy; lots of good words, the everyday and the fantastic mixed together, and strong female characters. ( )
