Elizabeth’s parents were far as you can get from the Ward and June Cleaver from the “Leave It to Beaver” television series. Physically and emotionally abused, the graphic descriptions are not for the faint of heart. The author describes the abuse and molestation that began when she was very young. The incestuous actions by both parents continued for years until she finally left. Her story begins again after she was married and had children of her own when her brother David finally spoke up and her father arrested. The descriptions of the depositions, trial, and testimony reveal the shame and damage done to the sibling and their relationships with their families. This true crime book presents a quandary. It was therapeutic for the author to write. Reading the book may encourage others in similar circumstance to speak up. The court case brought a nasty situation to light, but left the readers wondering why it always appears that the victims are on trial rather than the defendant. The family may have learned to live with, but it was obvious from the dialogue they will never truly get over it. ( )
