Se il Bf dominò i cieli nelle prime fasi del conflitto, l'Fw permise alla Luftwaffe di mantenere tale supremazia sino all'entrata in campo della formidabile macchina bellica americana, la sola in grado di schierare aerei capaci di competere con il caccia tedesco. Prodotto in oltre 20.000 esemplari, l'Fw 190 rimase in attività sino alla fine della guerra. ( )
