Rez Abbasi's Invocation

Jazz Standard, New York, NY

December 7, 2011

Late Show

Here is the source information but please read the notes below:

iProRecorder > iPhone 4S (176kbps WAV)

iProRecorder > iPad 2 (705kbps WAV)

WAVs>Audacity>Mixed WAV>TLH

Each WAV was imported into Audacity where they were synced, mixed and edited. The iPhone-sourced WAV is lower res because I had the software set incorrectly but I felt it gave the mix some body. I am glad to make the master WAVs available to anyone who would like to play with them.

I used this set up on a lark. I interviewed Rez Abbasi a few days prior for AllAboutJazz.com (that's here if you care: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=41011&page=1) using iProRecorder and my iPad. I was catching his gig and thought, "What the heck, it might stink but let's give it a shot". To my surprise, the recording came out quite well. Good enough that I recorded another show since and am thinking about external mics...

Not the most orthodox rig, I know, but hopefully there are some interested folks out there. This is a dynamite band.

This was the second and last set of the second and last night of a two night run. These were album release shows for the band's new record Suno Suno, which I'd encourage you to get if you like these tracks. I am a massive McCoy Tyner fan but Vijay Iyer is a genius on the piano.
