Within the Sanctuary of Wings is the conclusion to Marie Brennan's thrilling Lady Trent Memoirs After nearly five decades (and, indeed, the same number of volumes), one might think they were well-acquainted with the Lady Isabella Trent--dragon naturalist, scandalous explorer, and perhaps as infamous for her company and feats of daring as she is famous for her discoveries and additions to the scientific field. And yet--after her initial adventure in the mountains of Vystrana, and her exploits in the depths of war-torn Eriga, to the high seas aboard The Basilisk, and then to the inhospitable deserts of Akhia--the Lady Trent has captivated hearts along with fierce minds. This concluding volume will finally reveal the truths behind her most notorious adventure--scaling the tallest peak in the world, buried behind the territory of Scirland's enemies--and what she discovered there, within the Sanctuary of Wings.… (more)

I've been putting off finishing the Lady Trent Memoirs because I didn't want them to end. And wow, what an ending! I didn't see it coming. I've really enjoyed Lady Trent's voice across five books and I think the entire series is very strong. I wish there were more of Lockwood's beautiful illustrations in each book too. But yeah, this is a great historical fantasy series with an 1800s vibe, if that's what you're looking for. I'm glad I finally allowed myself to finish it. ( )

I really truly love this series. It's so vivid and complete, and I really commend Brennan for making such a whole world in these books. ( )

A fitting conclusion to the memoirs of Lady Trent. Isabella takes us on one last adventure where she faces the perils of nature & politics, only to come across her greatest discovery. This final chapter was as pleasurable as the previous books. ( )
