This is reprint of a collection of material about children's games made in the late nineteenth century. It is unusual for including games which did not involve words. The sources are quite miscellaneous, but the collection is very full and has become a classic in the study of children's games. I would think that it is roughly equivalent to Child's ballads --also from very miscellaneous sources, but still standard. My mother got this copy in 1970, probably because she was teaching children's literature. ( )
