Rumpole and the married lady. Rumpole is defending Mrs. Thripp in a divorce action against her husband, and her tearful descriptions of a man who has only communicated by typewritten notes for three years, moves Rumpole to declare that they will have an easy win. But nothing can be that easy for Rumpole, especially when "she who must be obeyed" is under the empression that Rumpole has taken a mistress! Rumpole and the learned friends. Rumpole is called on to assist in the defense of a safe blower who may have been "set up" by Inspector "Dirty" Dickerson. Rumpole's decision to attack police corruption before a police-friendly judge proves unwise. Summoned to a disciplinary hearing, a chambers meeting is called to discuss how to best make use of the vacant office space comming their way -- but Rumpole isn't to be rid of that easily.… (more)
