Don Winslow, whom I have recently discovered, eases the pain of Elmore Leonard's passing and Lawrence Block's apparent retirement from writing crime novels. Moreover, Mr. Winslow is the Gillo Pontecorvo, or the Costa-Gavras, of the crime fiction genre.
