A Tomb for Boris Davidovich by Danilo Kis
Mrs. Graddock by W. Somerset Ma ... My Lord John: A tale of intrigue, honor and the rise of a king by Georgette Heyer - bought about six months ago, plan on reading soon.
I am reading Death in the Stocks and Royal Escape. Royal Escape is not so compelling. It reminds me of My Lord John, which I have not finished although I started it a very long time ago. Gabaldonʻs Lord John #12 Lady of Quality is a good one! I'd stay away from My Lord John though if you're looking for a light read, Clam. I read it recently and it was not only a tough, dense read with unfamiliar medieval words, but it ended in the middle of a sentence.
When I get stuck on heavier reads, I tend ... ... - Hmmm. They don't have any of those at my library. They all look like mystery titles except for two, Lady of Quality and My Lord John. ... Clue because I like the romance in it. The other mysteries all just run together for me.
The historical stuff, like My Lord John and An Infamous Army, I didn't like at all. Probably because when reading about people and events in history, I would rather read non-fiction. ... and Devil's Cub (Georgian, not Regency, and to be read together), Sylvester, The Convenient Marriage, Black Sheep. My Lord John, Royal Escape, and Simon the Coldheart are historicals, not romances. ... The Corinthian, Cousin Kate, Devil's Cub, Faro's Daughter, Frederica, Friday's Child, Lady of Quality, My Lord John, The Nonesuch, Powder and Patch, The Reluctant Widow, Royal Escape, Simon the Coldheart, Sylvester or the Wicked Uncle, The Talisman Ring, These ... ... to select novels representing the total duration her career, beginning with The Black Moth and ending with the posthumous My Lord John.
The Private World of Georgette Heyer can best be described as an "authorized" biography. In the words of the author: "I hope to trace the thread of this ... I picked up the following tonight at Third Place Books near Seattle:

I just finished listening to an audiobook of The Thirteen Clocks by James Thurber
Still currently reading My Lord John by Georgette Heyer. It's a little heavier going than her usual style; a bit too much "forsoothly." ...
Bath Tangle (enjoyed the plot and sub-plots)
Of her other books...
Rather sad that she didn't finish the sequels to My Lord John. (Always loved Hen.V and John of Gaunt and Katherine Swynford--from Shakespeare and Anya Seton...) ... With several others coming close.
I'm not that fond of The Masqueraders or some of the histories. I do like My Lord John though.
I do like the mysteries though. They don't compare to Dorothy Sayers, of course. Death in the Stocks is probably my favourite of those. Thank you for some wonderful memories including My Lord John and the Pargeter Heaven Tree Trilogy - some memorable scenes in those books.
A few other good and great medieval reads come to mind...
Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes
Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott

The B ... ... in 1974. Her last novel to be published before her death was A Lady of Quality (1972). Her husband edited and published My Lord John after her death. ... the sory of the anorexic girl- it was touching but I felt the book didn't have a great ending- it was too sudden.
6.My Lord John- Georgette Heyer
I'm a huge fan of Georgette Heyer's and I loved this book. Too bad she never got a chance to finish it. I have just started to reread My Lord John by Georgette Heyer. She is best known for her Recency romances, but according to the forward by her husband, was most interested in this period and did extensive research. It seems to be a pretty accurate description of the period 1397-1427.
