What did you think of Alcatraz? The Author of Al Capone Does My shirts seemed to know her history and also researched families who lived on Alcatraz. I think you might like this book. I finished another Newbery Honor book. I recommend Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko. Zoe

I liked how the chapters were different pov of the characters around the same subject. I love looking inside each of the characters minds while they are going through a conflict. A very adult ending ... Definitely try Al Capone Does My Shirts again - incredible book

Maybe I should find it. Al Capone Does My Shirts. ... for suggestions of what to read. I would suggest The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
Another one that is very good is Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko.
Two other juvenile books that my book group has enjoyed are Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor and The Whipping Bo ... ... tried to read a book as many times before giving up... I give up pretty fast if I don't like something.

It was really involving emotionally, and that's great... I usually don't get caught up in English-language children's/YA books. (I wonder if ... prezzey - Al Capone Does My Shirts has been highly recommended to me by my 10 year old (sister to an older autistic brother), and a few teachers at her school. It's around here someplace - I have to read it one of these days. Let us know what you think of it. ... written (though it's nothing special beyond that) but I didn't like the attitude toward autism...
I've recently bought Al Capone Does my Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko but I haven't read it yet, I have high hopes for that one... but then again I had high hopes for A Wizard Alone too.

Honorable mention: The Curious Incident of ... I just finished Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko. It is a great book for middle schoolers and I think it would make for some good discussions. I am now reading The Closers by Michael Connelly. I have never read a bad book by Connelly.
