While his figure work is heavily influenced by Kirby, Steranko also makes use of surrealism and movie frame style animations to produce some of the most stunning comic book art of the period. Where Steve Ditko was Marvel's premier surrealist in the early 60s, Steranko would take that title in the late 60s with a much darker and dramatic approach which makes Ditko's seem simply 'weird'.
The 3 Steranko issues contained in this volume bulge with incredible artistic concepts that go well beyond even the high standards Marvel was setting at the time. Individual pages have become classics in their own right.
Lets not forget Jack Kirby though whose work in the other 10 issues here was clearly a labour of love.
Two classic depictions of one classic hero. ( )
