At first impression, private investigator Don Strachey is manic and sharply witty. The rest of the book only heightens this impression.

Don's (deceased) client has inadvertently made his last request-- but it's up to Don to piece together just what the man intended with his vaguely-worded pre-death letter.

The mystery is exciting and the plot's twists and turns happen quickly. Throughout, Don grouses about the Albany winter in creative ways, and his lover, Timothy, stoically puts up with him and his craziness. The book was very entertaining and I highly recommend it. ( )

Donald Strachey, a gay PI in Albany, NY, investigates when a man's body is found in his impounded car. The mystery intensifies when Strachey comes into possession of $2.5 million dollars, which he deduces was the motive for the murder. This mystery, third in a series, is well-written and features Strachey's delightfully wry humor. ( )

Book description
Someone's left a man's body in Donald Strachey's car -- the grandson of Albany's most connected political fixer. A letter from the deceased asks Strachey to dismantle his grandfather's party machine. Like a chess master, Strachey moves ten suitcases, an army of colorful pawns (all of whom think they're king), and $2.5 million across the continent and around Albany. One of the funniest in the series.
