This book is about a professor who handpicks a crew to seek an uncharted island. He hopes to prove that it exists and to possibly settle on this island. This is a very good book. ( )

2311 The Navigator, by Morris West (read 21 Jul 1990) This 1976 novel tells of Gunnar Thorkild, a half-Polynesian professor in Hawaii who set out to find an island not shown on any map. He does, and wrecks the ship as he is attempting to land. The rest of the book tells of the troubles the people have on the island. I found the book amoral and really not what I wanted to read. Not a bad book, though I am not sure it is an important book. ( )

This is a good read. The book is based in the Pacific. Our adventure starts in Hawaii, a University Prof. is turned down for tenure, though he has brilliant publications of the Pacific Ocean, it Navigation and trade routes. He list in an appendix a mystical island of the navigators from legend. And writes it as if it is a fact. An island no one has ever seen. ( )
