Years ago, Meghann Dontess made a terrible choice that cost her everything, including the love of her sister, Claire. Now, Meghann is a highly successful attorney who doesn’t believe in intimacy—until she meets the one man who can change her mind. Claire Cavenaugh has fallen in love for the first time in her life. As her wedding day approaches, she prepares to face her strong-willed older sister. Reunited after more than two decades apart, these two women who believe they have nothing in common will try to become what they never were: a family. Tender, funny, bittersweet, and moving, Between Sisters skillfully explores the profound joys and sorrows shared by sisters, the mistakes made in the name of love, and the promise of redemption—all beautifully told by acclaimed author Kristin Hannah.

“Enormously entertaining . . . Hannah has a nice ear for dialogue and a knack for getting the reader inside the characters’ heads.”—The Seattle Times

“Hannah writes of love with compassion and conviction.”—Luanne Rice.

My only objection is that I kept sobbing towards the end of last night. My husband thought something was very wrong with me.

Two half-sisters with a celebrity mom, Claire Sullivan and Meghann Dontess. Due to neglect and abandonment by their mom, Meghan, the older was a stand-in mom for her younger sister, Claire. When their mother completely forgot about them, Meghan panicked and called Claire's stepfather who was not even aware of Claire. He came and took them away, Meghann felt rejected and ran away.

Years later, Meghann is a prominent divorce lawyer making a lot of money and her little sister helped her father with his small resort in Hayden, Washington.
Megahnnis always lonely and uses alcohol and one-night stands to numb her broken feelings. She longs for her sister but refuses to take action recommended by her psychiatrist. Claire gets asked to a getaway with a group of her long-time friends and meets Bobby Austin. Claire falls hard for a country music singer who never got a big break.

A drifter with a big secret misses his sister and reluctantly returns to Hayden. He feels guilty and has never been able to live with his grief.

The characters were drawn so well that I got attached to them and wanted a sequel. I am always drawn to character-centered, especially family books are my favorite. ( )

Not a fan of these type of books. Nice story but no guessing. I knew exactly where this ending was going. ( )

The first Hannah book I read and it was hard to put down. It made me laugh and cry. I will for sure try some of her other books! ( )

Claire Sullivan and Meghann Dontess are half-sisters who went their own way when Claire was 9 and Meghann several years older. Since then they have been wary of each other. Claire has a daughter and is a single mother. She lives in Hayden, Washington, and helps her father run a small resort. Meghann is a well-respected divorce lawyer who is 42 years old and extremely lonely. She sees a psychiatrist, Harriet Bloom, but refuses to talk about what is really causing her loneliness.. On a getaway with her girlfriends, the Bluesons, Claire meets and falls in love with Bobby Austin, a country songwriter/singer. An incident with a client's husband and Claire impending marriage get the sisters together again, then tragedy strikes. ( )
