Wake McMann, Lis ... ... to me. I even liked Earth a whole lot. I haven't read it in nigh on 20 years, but I really loved it then...also, The Uplift War completely ensorcelled me. The Gubru, with their tripartite expansive verb structure, have left an indelible mark on me...I still, to this good day, say ... ... become a turn-off for some.
Ah, Chris, that's a great set of books to have with you. Those two are Brin's best work, and The Uplift War is one of my favorite all-time books. I love the humor in it, and I love the political structure of Brin's universe. So sad that he completely wimped out in ... ... of Hed trilogy. When I lived in Costa Rica, these were the only books I brought with me, along with Startide Rising and The Uplift War by David Brin. They bear rereading quite well, never losing their charm and poetry. #116 From what I remember, the Uplift books Startide Rising, The Uplift War, Brightness Reef, Infinity's Shore and Heaven's Reach all follow the same story arc. I have a sneaky suspicion that this Uplift Saga will be better than the sum of it's parts, like the old Shannara books. This was another long story about neo-chimpanzees trying to survive in an isolated mountain region against overwhelming odds. The Gubru ... 83: Interesting anti-list. I loved it and went on to The Uplift War (good, but a slight notch down), then filled in Sundiver.
The series stalled there for a while and then Brin added another trilogy that picked up and ... I LOVE The Uplift War--no, wait, I already said that in message 45, didn't I? I'm delighted you enjoyed it so much. OP maybe Brin's Uplift series would suit. A goodly part of the action in The Uplift War by Brin is driven by the ambitions of gender differentiation of one of the main alien species, the Gubru, where the gender one becomes at molt within one's triad is the result of a complex interrelationship of social dominance and power.

David Brin, in The Uplift War, had 7 words that I did not know in it. Rarely do I find even one (that is English, at least). And I love the story--it is delightful. ... to fantasy.
Dragon's Egg probably couldn't be translated into fantasy. Star Wars, Babylon 5, and even say, the Uplift series probably could. ... other 13 related books

I think the first trilogy by David Brin was very, very good. In fact, The Uplift War is one of my top tier books. I loved the universe he created. The first book of the second trilogy had promise, but the rest never delivered, and with the ... I also think Brin inconsistent. I do like the first Uplift trilogy VERY much--I'm quite okay with the ending of Uplift War--I love the sense of humor and the interlocking themes and the aliens especially in that book.The second trilogy didn't resonate nearly as much regarding story line and ... ... I also think Light is some of the worst SF ever written. So that might define some of my tastes. The Uplift Series is good space opera. I liked The Golden Compass (my husband hated it), but thought the series became too didactic. The last book is fairly unreadable. ... ... reading The Crystal Spheres and few other David Brin short stories. He knows his job :-) When I was younger I read Uplift War and wasn't able to embark to his vision, maybe I should read it again ? ... two Uplift trilogies, although I thought Sundiver was a weak start to them.
