Destination: nowhere. Just what are the career alternatives for a disenchanted flight attendant? And after a decade of wrong choices and loser boyfriends, can she finally grow up and nab Mr. Right? Gretchen Barnett, slogging daily through the unfriendly skies on Nickel and Dime, America's most loathed budget airline, tries to upgrade her life as her twenties draw to an end. In desperation, she applies to the NYPD. And a chance encounter with a handsome stranger on a malfunctioning escalator in New York's Union Square seems to be the escape she needs. Charming, supportive, honest, romantic, a poet, even: all the things her new boyfriend Maximus Voo turns out not to be. Moving him in is more dangerous than boarding one of Nickle and Dime's planes. But who is it dangerous for? Brimming with insight and wicked humor, bestselling author Gerald Hansen spins off to exciting new territory with Emergency Exit, a twisty modern tale of one woman's struggle to find North on her moral compass. Join Gretchen on her journey through the rapture of new love, the turmoil that follows, a winning scratch card, and a mysterious dump on the kitchen floor.… (more)

Not my usual genre, and found it a little clichéd in places, but it was readable. ( )

Received this book for an early review and I'm very glad for that. I don't usually delve into this genre but I kind of liked it.
As for the book itself, I loved the idea that the author presented but the story seemed to be missing in some parts which broke the plot-flow for me. I feel the author could've spent more time in building the other characters but as it is indicated as the first part of the series I'm sure this will be addressed in later parts.

All in all, it is a light read and great for bringing along on travels to spend your time. ( )

I received this book as an early reviewer. I found the communication for receiving this book really encouraged my reading of the book. I will definitely continue to follow the author. This book took a while to get going for me, initially I found it a bit disjointed and I couldn't relate to the main character. However as I persisted I enjoyed the main character a lot more and especially the cross cultural elements and the consistency of behavior (even though I would never react in the same ways). I found a few of the other characters completely unbelievable but I think that might be the point.

It was a good explore of what happens when you operate with a completely different "compass" for me. Worth sticking around to find out what happens.

I would recommend this book as a fairly light read - its not all flowers and chocolates though. The style is very easy to read and you just need to keep the time period you are in correct in your head or you will wonder why a particular person is doing or saying something. That said it wasn't too hard to pick up and keep reading in quite short sessions. If you like a bit of a twist but a good strong ending this is for you. ( )

I would not have finished reading this book if I had not received it for free in exchange for an honest review.

I just could not relate to the heroine, who was a weak, indecisive whack job. She lets the men she meets take advantage of her – sometimes she realizes it’s happening, and sometimes not, but does nothing in either case. The final revenge she and her friends plan was a lot of fun, almost worth sticking with it.

It's hard to imagine what other troubles the heroine could possibly get into, but this is shown as Book 1 of a Series. ( )
