The second in the Broken Heart Oklahoma series, "Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire" tells the tale of Broken heart librarian Eva. Eva was killed and turned into a vampire a few months back, when Lorcan, a vampire suffering from a disease called 'the taint' went on a spree and murdered several housewives and a househusband. These deceased were immediately turned into vampires by a vampire polictical group with plans to take over the town and turn it into a safe haven for all things unworldly. Eva and her 12 year old daughter are adjusting to their new lives, when Eva finds herself with new vamp side effect powers. She has an effinity for animals and they are drawn to her. She is also able to mind read animals that were once human. This just gets her involved in a mess and a power play when the band of Wraiths and even an Ancient want to get to her. Locan tries to protect her but he has his own secrets. This book was a quick, lighthearted read. At times the story is humourous but I think the author thinks she is funnier than she really is. That is unfortunate because from her notes and other things I have read I can tell she is just a fabulous person. I am all for quick, quirky reads but the biggest fault of this series it that the author doesn't do enough description and she leaves things hanging frequently and the reader is expected to fill in the gaps. The basic plot of the series is a winner. The characters, although they too could use some more definition, are good and likeable. I love the kid/parent interactions but there need to be more of them if this series is working the mommy angle. Still, I really enjoyed this one more than the first and I have the next one in my room, ready to be read. I can hope this series will continue to improve. I hope it does because I do see a lot of potential. ( )I love the way that each books picks up with a different narrator, it makes the series much more interesting. Follows on from I'm the vampire that's why, but with the narration from Eva. Good, funny and sexy. Don't Talk Back to Your Vampire by Michelle Bardsley is the 2nd book in the Broken Heart series and was a fun read. I really enjoyed the first book and was excited when I found this one at the library. Eva is the town librarian and another one of the new vampires that was formed after Lorcan attacked. She is dealing with all of the issues that go along with being a vampire as well as a single mother to a teenage girl. And then she realizes that she has to deal with her growing attraction to Lorcan the vampire who killed her. This was a fun, enjoyable read that I picked up and then couldn't put down. I enjoyed the chemistry between Eva and Lorcan and was rooting for them to find their happy ending. Eva was a strong main character and I liked reading about her. I identified with her love of books (who wouldn't?) and her love of animals. While I didn't love this one as much as I did the first book in this series, I did enjoy it and will be looking for the third soon. A great series so far and I do recommend if you enjoy paranormal romance. What kind of book do you get when you mix the chick-lit sass of a soccer mom with the urban fantasy cool of a vampire clan? A really clever book, that's what. As if Evangeline (Eva) LeRoy didn't have her hands full already with her teenage daughter and running Broken Heart, Oklahoma's library, she's been vampified. Stuck on a liquid diet and with a new 'hot mama' make-over courtesy of Jess from the first book, Eva's life has certainly done a 180. Ever since she was turned critters of all kinds flock to her like she's some sort of magnet for animals. From squirrels and deer to the elusive black wolf who won't get close enough she can touch him she's discovering she has a new power, the power to communicate with and command shifters. This new power comes in very handy with the Wraiths letting loose vampires they've tried to cure of the taint. Though lycanthrope blood worked for Lorcan, the vampire who killed the eleven vampires created in book one, it hasn't worked for these twisted hybrids. But who is behind it all and what do they want with Lorcan and Eva? Though focused much more on the events involving the Consortium and the Wraiths, fear not my dear romance readers, there's plenty of sensual tension and chemistry between Eva and Lorcan. You'll learn more about the Ancients, werewolves and Johnny Angelo & his evil cat Lucifer this time too! I really enjoyed Eva as the single mom raising a teenaged daughter, between wondering about her daughter's vampire slayer boyfriend and trying to tell her potential suitors there's only one guy she's interested in. This is a paranormal with real heart and while lighter, fluffier reading than the heavy-weights of the genre this series is going onto my favorites shelf with the first book of this excellent series. I found this humorous and the 'rules' behind her world hang together and seem to make sense. The character development and romance were there as well as a nice sarcastic wit. Told in the first person, but it wasn't annoying as the author has a great 'voice'. This is actually the 2nd in the series, though it was the first one I read and I had no trouble picking up the plot. Will definately buy the first one. no reviews | add a review
