The Cincinnati detectives question everything they know-and everyone they trust-in the new novel of romantic suspense from New York Times bestselling author Karen Rose.

Homicide detective Adam Kimble is no stranger to battling demons. But Meredith Fallon is a different kind of weakness: one that could actually be good for him, if only he would let himself depend on her. Meredith has loved Adam for a year, and seeing how hard he's worked to deal with his PTSD makes her feelings only stronger, but she respects his needs. Her work keeps her busy anyway: she counsels sexually abused women like Mallory Martin to help them reintegrate into the world.

But someone doesn't want Meredith helping women like Mallory, and Meredith finds herself in the crosshairs of a very determined killer. Adam would risk anything for her, but they'll soon find out she isn't the only target.

It is now 4:18am and i have just finished this book. I simply couldn’t put it down until i finished. There was so much going on and the sneaky twists kept me so engrossed i didn’t even realise the time and my alarm clock is set for 4:45am!!
I haven’t read a book that has kept me this enthralled for a while now. Really really brilliant book. It has a bit of everything in it, murder, snipers, FBI, cops, drugs, romance, terror, love, fear, violence, kindness, betrayal, redemption and even some knitting ??
The Cincinnati series has been brilliant start to finish. You don’t have to read the other books in the series as this book does give you a bit of a back stories from the previous books that are relevant to the characters but i would defiantly recommend starting with book one – Closer Than You Think and the other two books, Alone in the dark and Every Dark Corner before this one as a lot of the characters cross over to the other books and with them their own traumas from the earlier books.
This book relates back to a previous case Adam Kimble had been working on involving a ring criminals abducting and forcing teens for the Internet sex trade.
And this time its personal, some one is out there trying to cut off any loose ends before they get turned in by the girls that had got away. Homicide detective Adam Kimble who is suffering from PTSD and Meredith Fallon, a child therapist are believed to be the targets and the book starts straight in with a bang.
A young man points a gun at Meredith in a full restaurant whilst wearing a bomb, from there on in it is non stop action right through to the bitter end. The story weaves lots of characters and plots flawlessly.
This book is a dark, gritty crime drama, with a complex plot, and super edgy suspense. It is also features deep and intense interpersonal relationships, and red-hot romance. The blooming romance between Adam and Meredith is the kind of romance every woman wants.
Move over Mr Darcy, i think you may have been replaced with Adam Kimble and Deacon Novak!!
Read this book, you will not regret it and if you haven’t read any of Karen Rose’s other books i can almost guarantee you will want to!
The Will Trent and Grant County books are by far my ultimate favourites with these Cincinnati books a very close second!
Defiantly a 5 star book, congratulations Karen on another wonderful book. ( )

Edge of Darkness is everything I love about great romantic suspense! Here are the reasons I think you will love it too:

  1. Great characters: Meredith is a child psychologist but also suffers from depression. She has self harmed and attempted suicide in the past. She still struggles at times and it made her a very believable character. Adam is a recovering alcoholic who struggles daily. Again, this made him relatable and flawed.

  2. Fun supporting characters: their circle of friends is filled with fun people. Kate, the FBI agent who knits, Clarke, Meredith's video game creating grandfather, Diesel, the hacker. They add a lot of depth to the story. I can't wait to read more about them.

  3. Location: As a citizen of Cincinnati, I loved hearing about places in my town! It was great when she would mention Fountain Square, Columbia Parkway, etc.

  4. Suspense/Mystery: The plot revolves around a truly horrific act-human trafficking. The story is well written though and Rose doesn't exploit the topic for shock value or anything. You really feel like you are solving the crime with them. The entire book takes place over a weekend and you get glimpses into Meredith, Adam, a young hooker named Linnea, and the bad guy.

  5. Heartbreaking: Linnea's story had me in tears. This was a problem because I was listening while I drove. Driving and crying are not a good mix. But, man, its impossible to not care about this girl!

So, those are my 5 reasons you should read Edge of Darkness! I haven't read the previous 3 books in the Cincinnati series, but I plan to. The audio is perfect by the way. My biggest struggle was not having whisper sync because I had the paperback and not the ebook!

  • POV: 3rd

  • Tears: yes

  • Trope: second chance romance, police/FBI

  • Triggers: forced prostitution, child molestation, and human trafficking are all part of the story. None of the acts are detailed. Most of the story occurs after these situations took place and focus more on the after effects

  • Series/Standalone: stand alone

  • Cliffhanger: none

  • HEA: yes with epilogue a few weeks into the future

Be a Good Girl by Tess Diamond, Smoke and Mirrors by Julie Rowe, A Cold Dark Place by Toni Anderson...then you will probably like Edge of Darkness!
