The 5th installment of the Women’s Murder Club series was another solid read. It consisted of two concurrently running plots. Boxer was tracking down a serial murderer while the city was absorbed by a major malpractice trial waged against one of the city's best known hospitals. I was a bit disillusioned with the conclusion of the first plot which ended approximately 100 pages from the end of the story. It just didn't feel right to me, and I kept waiting for the shocking spin that never came. Fortunately the second plot line kept the story moving. But once again I wasn't completely satisfied with the conclusion. It just wasn't as crisp and neat as what I have come to expect from this series. The story did move along and kept me interested, I just wish the conclusions were a bit more satisfying. ( )

Since so many others have outlined the general plot of this story (huge lawsuit against a hospital; suspicious deaths that may or may not have been committed by a doctor) I'll simply leave a brief comment. Although the story isn't all that complicated, it was still a quick, enjoyable read--and the ending was one I didn't see coming. Please be aware, though, that THE 5TH HORSEMAN is NOT an Alex Cross novel, which seemed to be one reviewer's complaint. This is the story of Lindsay Boxer, SFPD Lieutenant and her fellow Women's Murder Club friends. I found the story to be heartfelt and emotional, full of action-adventure, and, as I said, a very quick, satisfying read. ( )

James Patterson and Maxine Paetro are an explosive tandem. The 5th Horseman deserves all the praises and acclaims. This novel is divided into two stories, two separate incidents not related with each other and the women's murder club is working full force. The authors tap into medical malpractice that goes to court and would leave readers shocked at the events. Another angle is the mysterious killing of girls and how they're made to look like mannequins. The suspense never stops and the plot is twisted as always and one could never put this book down. No loose ends, no criminal not put behind bars, I loved the way the characters developed, Lindsay and Joe's relationship is getting somewhere, Cindy is still a damn good reporter, Claire still answers a lot of questions and provides strong evidence, and Yuki is directly affected with the unfortunate events. This book stirs, moves, thrills, and entertains ( )

I absolutely loved this book. I couldn't put it down. I got half way through and then I said, "I need to finish this book!" and I did, which seems like an amazing accomplishment for me! I just could not put it down.

It read like a Law & Order episode to me ... I just can't decide on which one -- not the original, maybe SVU, but probably more along the lines of Criminal Intent. I was able to easy visual every single scene in the book, which just made it like watching an actual TV show -- except better (because watching TV tends to make me seasick). Absolutely loved it!

My only concern while reading it is I kept wondering, "Should I know by now who the bad guy is?" It was a constant surprise up til the end for me! I don't know if it would be for someone else so I'm kind of hesitant to pass it on ... What if it's "predictable" and I'm just seeing it?

This book was okay, but not the best so far in the series. The major plot revolves around patients dying at San Francisco General hospital. Including someone that Lindsey knows. That brings a whole new dimension to the case and Lindsey vows to stop the killer.

The other case going on involves girls being killed, dressed up and staged. I found myself more interested in this case than the hospital murders, and this one was just a sideline to the main show.

I can't really say why I didn't like this one as much as some of the others, it just seems forgettable to me. There wasn't anything that left me breathless. In fact, I think I'll put off finishing this series for a while. ( )
