The actual novel contains the family's story through the use of the daughter's journal, and the mother's scrapbook.

I read another book of Anderson-Dargatz called The Cure for Death by Lightning: A Novel. It was about ten years ago and I read it because of the British Colombia connection in a book club.

In Spite of Thunder by John Dickson Carr I've just started The Jane Austen Book Club and am enjoying it. I had to put aside The Cure for Death by Lightning as I was finding it just so disturbing how every single thing is connected to violence. ... ones I have physical access to in order to check. The Historian is, as I said, the only example I can find in my library; The Cure For Death By Lightning, as mentioned by Kathryn in #155, doesn't include the words anywhere on title page, publisher/book data, or on the cover of my copy (nor in ... ... subtitle or not, seems to be 90% confined to US-published books
Now this is most interesting. We share copies of The cure for death by Lightning , by Gail Anderson-Dargatz. The Canadian published copy I own, definitely has a novel as a subtitle on the title page, but the London ... ... Tent, The Time-Traveler's Wife, and anything by Barbara Kingsolver (my favorite!). On the less well-known front, A Cure for Death by Lightning seems like it might be up your alley as well.
