My Pal, Victor/Mi Amigo, Victor is a bilingual story of two best friends, Dominic and Victor. Dominic and Victor do everything together, from inventing stories, to telling jokes, to riding rollercoasters. At the end of the story, it is revealed that Victor is in a wheelchair. An interesting twist? Dominic says that Victor likes him just the way he is, instead of the other way around.

This book would be a wonderful resource for libraries to introduce children to disablities. Victor is never shown as having limitations, instead participating in all the activities that Dominic does. Since it is written bilingually, librarians could also use this book to introduce some basic Spanish to young readers. It would also be a great book to have in areas that are heavily Spanish-speaking to begin with. All in all, this book will help able-bodied readers to realize that people with disabilities are just like them and can enjoy all the things that they enjoy. ( )

SUMMARY:
This multiculturalism book is about two Latino boys who were best friends. The book written both in Spanish and English, seek to take us on a journey about two boys who shared fun times despite one having a disability. The boys were carefree and portrayed the true value of friendship. It also implied that true friendship can over power any physical disability. It basically says love conquers all.

PERSONAL:
This is a remarkable story. It can show students that there are persons around the world who also suffer from physical disabilities just the same as some students around them. This book is appropriate for GK-4.It would be great especially for boys, who studies have shown are four times more likely to have a disability than girls.

CLASSROOM:
The teacher can bring in a resource person to the classroom who has a physical disability to show the class that they are human beings who are capable of success and fun as well.

There can also be a discussion about ways to improve social acceptance towards schoolmates with physical disabilities or any other kind of disabilities. ( )

The activities that these boys share with each other are current things that kids enjoy doing. This book seems like it could be a true story about the two boys, but is not based on any such story. There is not much of a plot to the story. The book is mostly about what the two boys enjoy doing together. There is no conflict or climax. There is a moral to the story, but without any conflict occuring. Victor likes Dominic despite his disability. The disability should never come in the way of a friendship. ( )
