He ran away from his house in Fairview. At first, Denn was raking in money from poker games in Vegas. However, like all other poker players, Denn hit a roadbump in his poker playing. He lost over 200 thousand dollars over a period of about two weeks. After losing all of his money except for about 50 dollars in spare change, Denn took a week off from playing poker. Then, he got right back into the action. He started building up his bank to enter in a poker tournament with a 10 thousand dollar buy-in. If you want to find out if Denn made it into the poker tournament, then I suggest that you read the book yourself. I thought that All-In was a great book. It kept me interested throughout the entire book. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys a good read. ( )Great read! You learn a lot about Texas Hold-um poker in this book: about reading tells, pocket pairs and lots of interesting poker terminology and strategy. You also get a picture of what high stakes vegas style gambling is like: the deceit, the lack of substance, the loneliness. The ending is not satisfying, but the writing is taut throughout. I enjoyed reading the book up until the lackluster ending. Hopefully there will be another sequel to provide some details here. I didn't read No Limit, which is the first book Hautman wrote about Denn Doyle and poker. But I didn't really need to. This is a fast-paced read that I found entertaining. I had to re-read the last chapter again to make sure I got it right though. And the clues were subtle about Cattie, the red-haired cheating dealer who Denn falls in love with. I think this is the first young adult book I've read about poker. I think. Recommended reads by this author: Godless (National Book Award winner), Sweetblood (kinda vampires) and Invisible (Whoa).
