I enjoyed the characters, especially how different they were from each other and yet had such a great friendship. Reminds me of my best friend. There is a treasure to find in being willing to accept the differences and learn from each others strengths. ( )Sharon, a God fearing, and easily cowed, mother of four and wife to Jeff, has a best friend called Penny. Penny was a flower child of the 60's who drove around Canada and the USA on the back of a moter bike before settling down in Sharon's town, confessing her faith and becoming 'respectable.' The two women become best friends, and they share the joys of married life, and motherhood until Penny moves away with her husband. Penny and her husband have well paid jobs and out of the blue Penny buys two tickets to Finland to find her last remaining relative. She wants Sharon to come too. off they go into the unknown - and have marvelous adventures - from a baby throwing up over Sharon on the plane through to sharing a sauna with two naked 70 year olds. A wonderful look at life, and journey of discovery. Both women find out something about themselves that leads to a better relationship with God, and new friends. A lovely gentle read. Best friends Penny and Sharon take the trip of a lifetime, allowing Penny to connect with her past and Sharon to become open to the possibilities of a wonderful future. Sharon and Penny are two friends who go on a zany adventure together and learn about themselves along the way. Very funny and inspiring. I felt like I was on a fun get away with my best friend each time I stole a few minutes to read. no reviews | add a review
