The eleventh Scarpetta novel, in which the Chief Medical Examiner is under a Grand Jury investigation for murder. She knows she's being framed and she no longer knows who she can trust...

Physically and psychologically bruised by her encounter with the killer Chandonne, Dr Kay Scarpetta has to leave her home in the hands of the police team investigating the attack. Kay knows she is being framed and she also knows she can trust no-one.

Meanwhile it appears that Chandonne killed a woman in New York before his murderous spree in Virginia, but when Scarpetta looks more closely into that case with the NY prosecutor Jaime Berger, proof of his guilt is far from certainâ??in fact she begins to believe that he may not be the perpetrator of any of the crimes he is accused of. As she follows the forensic trail to the real killer she gradually realizes that someone has been spinning a web for years with the aim of entrapping her. Who is it, and why are they so desperate to be rid of her?… (more)

(2000)Another good Scarpetta novel that continues the thread of her being attacked by a serial killer and then being considered a prime suspect in the assault on him and a related murder. Results in her leaving the Virginia job as coroner. To be continued...

We get to see a new side to Scarpetta in TLP. We get to see the HUMAN side of her. What person, even fictional (Scarpetta), can go on, day after day, without changing, once a loved one (Benton) has died? Scarpetta is changing.. for the better? For the worse? Who's to say because this story is not over. I found the changes in realistic, and the emotional side/factor of the character gave her more depth than she's ever had before.
Cornwell's books are always complex, this book seemed moreso.. perhaps because it backtracked so much into the previous book Black Notice. I've always told friends that Cornwells' books are stand alones.. where you don't need to read them in order. But if you're reading TLP, you really need to read Black Notice first, otherwise it won't make any sense to you.
I give this one a 4 stars, and do wait for the story to continue in the next book. ( )

"The Last Precinct" starts as if it is the chapter right after the end of "Black Notice." Read them right after one another if you get the chance. Just when you think that all of the terrible things that keep happening to Dr.Kay are going to do her in . . . . read in the book. ( )

This follows directly on from the previous book and you really do need to have read it first.
This time Kay finds things are too close to home when she is forced to flee from her home when her life is in danger.
The tension builds up and she doesn't know who she can trust. At times I found that I was so engrossed that it was hard to stop reading as I so needed to know what was going to happen.
If you're a fan of these books don't miss out this one. ( )

A completely different format for this book, which follows directly after the last one in the series. Best to read them as a pair. There is a huge development in the main characters. ( )
