This is all about the life of Patricia Bath. It is very inspiring as it talks about a woman of color becoming a doctor in a field dominated by men. It provides a lot of details on her life and all that she has done for the medical field. It shows a lot of Bath's personality as well, like how she was kind but always stood up for herself. It shows how supportive parents can have a positive impact on children. It also shows how Bath never gave up- she was always striving to learn more and do more to help others. This is a wonderful story that not only has good pictures and rhyming, but also has a great message for children to hear, especially young girls or girls of color. ( )

"The Doctor With an Eye for Eyes" is a wonderful story that lays out the life of Dr. Patricia Bath, the inventor of laserphaco(an invention used for cataract surgery). It talks about all of the hurdles she had to overcome as both a woman and a person of color, and how she viewed vision health as a basic right all people deserved access to. She was amazing, caring, and selfless and I genuinely enjoyed learning more about her. This book presents an opportunity to discuss overcoming obstacles, and to talk about no matter what other people say, we get to pick our own path. ( )

Dr Bath was a girl growing up during a time that most doctors were men and poor black people couldn't go to school. Despite the "normal" thing, she wanted pursue medical school anyway and went against the odds of being a black female in school. Dr. Bath was successful despite the sexism she faced and racism. Often times we need to be reminded that if its what we want, we go for it. Just because it may not be the way others see fit or what we think is normal, don't give up! ( )
