The best part of this series is the hero, the heroine is so self centered that this book just lost it for me finally. ( )

Let me start off by saying that the Stardoc series is among the best Sci-fi world building/space operas ever written. I am a die-hard fan of these books...seriously. But I still have to give Rebel Ice a 3-star rating. Viehl is such an excellent writer that she kept me reading throughout a book as confusing as this one. The Stardoc series took a very strange turn with this installment. From the very beginning, things started to unravel and I simultaneously thought, "What the..!?" and "Noo, no..what happened!" My startled but determined mind put things together near the end (where there's a shocker waiting) but had to read the book a second time to see the plot unravel in a way that made sense. Fans have to read Rebel Ice because it's a continuation of a truly superior sci-fi series, but it was my least favorite so far. Take heart though! The series gets back on track in the next couple of books. ( )

I stumbled upon the Stardoc series by accident, and have avidly read all of SL Viehl's books since. Cherijo Torin is a sympathetic character, and there is a depth of emotion that draws you in.

It helped that her books are one of the few places I have seen my child's name in print: Konal. ( )
