I was only fifteen and still wearing knickers when I got my first look at the bouncing, bawdy, and often stimulating world of burlesque--a branch of the theater in which my family name was to become a byword.

As I walk down the sewer that broadway has become and the block where we opened the Republic, I can't help but think the contrary to the predictions of Mr. Moss and Mayor La Guardia, the climate of that community has gone lower and lower since the night they closed Minsky's and tried to take our name away from us.
