I have fond memories of A Fall of Moondust by Arthur C. Clarke. Not about a colony per se, but about travel between moon colonies. A Fall of Moondust by Sir Athur C Clarke ... from the same time as 'star' and 'demolished'.
I'd like to read the man in the high castle next though, after reading a fall of moondust and discovering it was shortlisted but didn't win the hugo award for that year I decided I had to read the book that had beaten it! :) ... Brunner
Also sometimes dated, but generally plausible The Ghost from Grand Banks, The Fountains of Paradise, A Fall of Moondust, and Imperial Earth (among others) by Arthur C. Clarke
Beggars in Spain by Nancy Kress
That should get you started. Novel to make into movie: A Fall of Moondust by Arthur C. Clarke.
Novelette to make into movie: Ode to Joy by Dean McLaughlin in the July 1991 issue of Analog. This would have a very low sfx budget.

Despite the popularity of fantasy today, Thomas Burnett Swann is completely out-of-print. His fantasy novels don't ...

Another one that probably won't make it: Uhura's Song Janet Kagan ... hole, 57 octaves below the one in the middle of a piano. Is there a siren song calling us to space?"

I look forward to reading it.
hmmmm #52 - A fall of moondust; only just sayin'... ;-) ... stuff is so outdated that I guess it doesn't count anymore.
Isn't it weird to think of 2001 or The Sands of Mars or A Fall of Moondust as alternate history?
Still worth a read, though I guess the whole technology that is within reach today would be hard to apply. Ah, A Fall of Moondust! I loved it as a teen! Has some, ehrm, by modern standards totally unbelievable things in it but to me it only makes it entertaining.
Don't know what I'd think of it if I read it for the first time now, though. I looked at the SF Masterworks rack while we visited FP and ... ... Blowdown by James Lee Burke

Blood ... ... couple of pages which has aliens. Apart from that it would be mundane.
Of course a fair bit of Clarke's earlier SF like A Fall Of Moondust would count. ... I read a lot of the 'old' sf stuff when I was in that age. Like Have spacesuit will travel, Islands in the Sky and A fall of moondust, Caves of Steel and The naked sun (and a lot of other stuff that wouldn't qualify, like The sixth column and Tunnel in the sky, or Space cadet ... ... order'):
2001: A Space Odyssey
2010: Odyssey Two
2061: Odyssey Three
