This comic collection had a couple of gems (Eve in particular), but overall, I felt it was a waste of my time. With its vaguely defined stories and sometimes dubious art, I got the sense that the whole thing was supposed to tweak my emotions and encourage me to read meaning into nothingness... but there just wasn't enough there to make it compelling.

To be fair, I haven't read the others previous to this in the series, so maybe it'd be more interesting if I already knew the cast better. But honestly? I doubt it. Sometimes the "let's get a bunch of people to write on a loosely defined theme" works really well, but this one didn't. It came across to me as a collection trying hard to be Art but instead was a jumble of images and ideas without useful direction. ( )

The 11th and last book in the series, I feel it provides a satisfying conclusion, for the most part. Lucifer kind of pissed me off but, well, he's Lucifer. Similar to the Sandman series in that Neil Gaiman's summary is at least partially applicable: "The Lord of Dreams learns one must change or die and then makes his decision." And Lucifer is far more incapable of change than Morpheus. ( )
