They say he just happened to be there when Gorbachev made communism fail. The book, at times, does strain to make Reagan look heroic in some places, but all in all, it is a good corrective. ( )This is one of the best of the Reagan books. It traces a consistent line in Reagan's thoughts and actions regarding communism and the Cold War, starting with his stand as a member and later President of the Screen Actors Guild--reacting to the violence and thuggery of Communist controlled unions--covering his years in the conservative Republican wilderness as the almost reluctant hope of the anti-detente neo-conservatives, and ending with his second Presidential term and such turning points in the Cold War as his "Mr. Gorbachev: Tear down this wall!"speech and the famous Iceland Summit. Many libertarians and conservatives have long felt that while Reagan’s promises to halt the growth of government went largely unrealized, it was his determination and vision which won the Cold War. Interestingly, more and more honest liberal historians are coming to the same conclusion. no reviews | add a review
