La construcción del México postrevolucionario supuso el cultivo de las artes para la construcción de un lenguaje visual identitario. La escultura mexicana moderna había de volver los ojos a la talla directa, por su antecedente prehispánico, y a sus rasgos firmes y bien plantados. En el taller de Guillermo Ruiz los alumnos adquirían la formación de cantero, herrero y tallista bajo la formación del maestro, quien también realizó su propia obra bajo los postulados de su enseñanza.
