Overall a great resource. It is missing some species, most noticeably the blue whale and several species of bear and wolf. But still pretty comprehensive. ( )

I've had this lying around the house for twenty years. Occasionally, I'll pick it up and enjoy a little armchair traveling. Beautifully illustrated with pictures of odd beasts like worm snakes and star-nosed moles, nice tight descriptions and suggestions about the environments where you might see one if you look long and hard enough. I could imagine a lovely retirement just spent wandering around North America, this volume in hand, trying to find them all. ( )

Meticulous, specially drawn full-color illustrations of the most abundant, wide-ranging, and conspicuous birds-nearly 650 species in all-depicted in natural settings. At-a-glance identification capsules pinpoint behavior patterns, field characteristics, coloring, habitats, and more.

My parents got me this book when I was very young, and I remember loving it and using it all throughout my childhood. We lived out in the country, and I packed that book all over the place, looking up the animals that I came across on my adventures. I definitely recomend it for people interested in wildlife, as it has wonderful illustrations and solid, helpful information about the animals of North America. ( )
