Blue Smoke has an intense storyline, yet the most important part of the story goes by to fast that it is a little difficult to understand what is happening. ( )

Years of tradgedy always surrounded by fire...I love the way Nora Roberts has us become a part of a strong Italian family...has them wrap around our hearts and brings us on a ride of fear and suspense...I am just now starting to breath at a normal pace... ( )

Review: Blue Smoke by Nora Roberts.

This is one of Roberts’s older books but it was a well written suspense novel and she still managed to deliver her usual relationships and well developed characters. The family relations in this story felt realistic and easy to follow. This is one of Robert’s down and gritty books and she limited her fluffy romance to captivate her readers. I know there are many fans of Roberts who wanted the comfortable laid-back romantic storey but this book will put some spice into their lives.

The story starts out when a young Joey Pastorelli, a school-yard bully assaulted Reena Hale at school and her younger brother intervenes to help his sister. That evening her father was angry about the situation he heads down the street to confront Joey and his father. There was a heated argument and the two fathers were furious but they went their separate ways. The confrontation left Joey’s father in an irate state and the two family’s lives change dramatically over night….

Reena woke during the night and went downstairs to get something to drink and she wasn’t that sleepy so she went outside and was sitting on her steps when she noticed something shining in front of her family’s pizza place at the end of the street. She stepped down and walked to the sidewalk and she was thinking how bluish and pretty the glow was until she noticed what it really was… Their family’s inherited by past-generations, pizza shop was burning….The story goes on while Joey ran after the police car that was taking his father away…Than the story begins twenty years later when Joey’s father gets out of prison for arson and Joey and Reena Hale are no longer young children.

Trauma seems to follow Reena in a stalking manner with many suspenseful events and challenges. Reena’s life becomes engulf in fire within her circle of family and friends. The family’s pizza place was rebuilt and it stayed a family business which they all contributed some of their off-time to the pizza place to help their parents. One of the daughter’s has plans in the works for a wedding and she plans to over-see the business as their father and mother get older. Another daughter gets a chance of marrying someone wealthy and Reena has spent her entire early school days and college life to years of studying to become a police officer and training for the Arson unit…

Reena has dated but no one caught her eye until a guy named Bo, who is establishing his own carpentry business. Bo calls Reena his dream girl. He first noticed her across the room at a friend’s party when he was a teen and fell in love with her however; he lost sight of her within moments. A few years later he saw Reena on the upper level at a mall but when he got to the next level he lost her again. A couple of more years went by and…?

With all the different fire scenes and events that take place I’m back to reading what’s happening to this family…Death, suspense and captivating fury situations throughout the story…. ( )

I'm a Nora Roberts fan, but this wasn't one of my favorites. It might have been better if it was 50-75 pages less, because I was starting to say "hey, don't you get it!" The main character was supposed to be so bright, etc etc but it took her almost to the end to figure out who was behind the terror, when I knew from the beginning. ( )

How does Nora Roberts know so much about so many topics?

This story is about a fire that burns down a family restaurant -- and how it changes both the arsonist's son and the victims's daughter, both of whom become obsessed with fire. ( )

Book description
Reena Hale's destiny was shaped in the destructive—yet fascinatingly beautiful—fire that leveled her family's pizzeria when she was young. Now an arson investigator, she finds her strength and wits constantly tested—although sometimes the job seems like a snap compared to her love life. But she can't always blame the men. After all, a soot-caked woman barking orders and smelling of smoke isn't the biggest turn-on in the world. Then she meets Bo Goodnight, who seems different. He's been trying to find Reena ever since the long-ago night when he glimpsed her from afar. And now that she's close enough to touch, he has no intention of letting go. Nor does the man who has begun to haunt Reena's life—with taunting phone calls and a string of horrifying crimes. And as Reena tries desperately to trace the origins—of the calls, the fires, the hatred aimed in her direction—she will step into the worst inferno she has ever faced...
