Written by one of the great pioneers at the British Museum who went into the field and translated many scrolls and texts, this work is comprehensive in the exposition of Ancient Egyptian beliefs in the hereafter and all of the pitfalls that had to be overcome to reach heaven. Although modern scholars discount his work, I still like his clear style of writing. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com Book Description (ISBN 0486293688, Paperback)

Complete hieroglyphic renderings of two ancient "books of the underworld" which provided the dead with a guide their souls would need to make the journey from the world of the living to the "abode of the blessed." Ancient texts shed considerable light on the development of material and spiritual elements in Egyptian religion and on numerous primitive gods. Extraordinary documents for students of Egyptology.
