( )Possibly better known as "wasn't that the book about the girl who fell on love with a dog?". Sirius is the story of a genetically modified alsatian with human level intelligence fostered and raised by his human creator. He is torn between his need for an intellectual and spiritual life and his 'wolf nature' and explores basic human issues like love, identity, purpose and happiness. It's charming and sad and if you can get past the narrator being a pretentious condescending man it's well worth reading. A moving SF tale of some superintelligent dogs, and one in particular. An experiment produces a dog that is smarter than people. Unfortunately this makes it hard for him to fit in anywhere, he can love a woman, and she can love him, but that can't work. He also still has a low level need to want to go and rip the throats out of animals, even though he knows that this is an animal instinct. He helps run a farm, but is hampered by lack of dexterity, gets tired of tests being run on him, among other things, not to mention getting a bit sick of the condescending farmer and/or creators. A lot of pathos here. http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks06/0601... http://superprose.blogspot.com/2006/1... no reviews | add a review
