... new memeber about 5 years ago or so, so we know each other pretty well, and except for the occasional really stupid book (Pretty Little Mistakes comes immediately to mind), I read things I wouldn't have read otherwise. Two stunners this year were The Road and Independent People. As many ... ... ad.
My worst books of 2008 were:
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
The Virgin Suicides by Jefffrey Eugenides
Pretty Little Mistakes by Heather McElhatton
The Mistress's Daughter by A. M. Homes
One that I abandoned so that I wouldn't slash my wrists:
One More Year ... Okay. This is close. The judges will have to decide.
I've read Pretty Little Mistakes. Is that close enough? It really sucked. That should count forsomething.

Phyllida and the Brotherhood of Philander, King Dork and Pretty Little Mistakes went to moochers earlier in the week! ... to finish some major drek. The major clunkers include Snow Crash, The Virgin Suicides, Any Given Doomsday, and Pretty Little Mistakes. I also listened to The Mermaid Chair which made me foam at the mouth. Books I've hated this year: Snow Crash, Pretty Little Mistakes, One More Year, Any Given Doomsday. Good literature or bad literature? Good books or bad books? Definitely not good for me, but it doesn't ... Pretty Little Mistakes has been bookmooched. I'm glad it's gone, I hope its new owner likes it more than I did. ... indeed!
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Just not my thing. About 30 pages out of around 600 were interesting.
Pretty Little Mistakes by Heather McElhatton. Shallow, meaningless, and ultimately boring. Good concept, but awful execution. Bleh. I just read a book for my bookclub called Pretty Little Mistakes by Heather McElhatton. I am amazed at how angry I got reading it.
It's got a fun premise. You 'build' a life by making a choice at the end of a short vignette. The first chapter is that you've just graduated from high ... ... UConn, and I have bookclub tonight and am going to shred, eviscerate, and otherwise bend, spindle, and mutilate our book Pretty Little Mistakes by Heather McElhatton. In order from awful to excellent:
Pretty Little Mistakes by Heather McElhatton. I can’t say enough awful things about this book. The premise is that you build your own life by branching after a life ... Finished Pretty Little Mistakes although finishing it is an overstatement. Blech. Pure drivel.
I read my August Bonus ER book, Any Given Doomsday by Lori Handeland and didn't particularly like it either.

I can't wait for the next meeting - the book was beyond awful to me (Pretty Little Mistakes) and since it's Ms. X's book, we'll get to use her format. I think she said she wants to have us all describe our opinion in 3 words, then open it ... I'm going to start Pretty Little Mistakes by Heather McElhatton today. It's for our October bookclub meeting.
I just finished Your Inner Fish by Neil Shubin which is an excellent book on paleontology. I desperately need a copy of Pretty Little Mistakes by Heather McElhatton. Anybody have one I can mooch?

24. Pretty Little Mistakes by Heather McElhatton
A fun little fluff (and I do mean fluff) book of choose-your-own-adventure chick lit.
25. Unholy Ghost: Writers on Depressi ... I LOVED Pretty Little Mistakes. I can't believe anyone wouldn't. It's a feminist book - the whole point of the book (If you read more than one thread) is that you DON'T need money or a man to be happy. Maybe you didn't read through enough threads, or got too many bad lives in a row? Some people ... My latest review is of Heather McElhatton's Pretty Little Mistakes. Check it out at http://anotherlibrarian.blogspot.com and let me know what you think. :-) I was very disappointed by Pretty Little Mistakes by Heather McElhatton. I had high hopes, the girl is from the same town I am, Minneapolis. There's so much of this book that is weird. It is an adult choose-your-own-adventure, and almost every seemingly successful long life and happiness is a ...
