Incredible reference book. Illustrations like the plates in this book (most from works published in 1901 and 1776) are just not done these days. The text has been omitted from the original works as apparently knowledge has increased in those fields since then, but I'd say that in illustration, we've gone backwards. That's why a large-size, soft-cover re-issue like this one is worth its weight in gold. – Beautiful things may make you greedy: I admit I'm curious about the original German 5-volume edition published in 1901...
