Daddy goes off to work as a train conductor as the sun sets. Harry and Gran head home for tea. As Harry winds down his day with tea and supper and a game of cards, Daddy is showing the train passengers to their berths. While Harry is getting a bath and getting ready for bed, Daddy is having his lunch on the train.
Daddy comes home as Harry is getting up in the morning. Both are excited to see each other and all is well. ( )

This cute book is about a loving family, where Daddy works nights and when he comes home, after dinner and a reunion with the family, he goes to bed. Daddy works on a train as a conductor and as the story plays out, we see the various jobs he does throughout the night to assist the passengers. At the same time, we see Harry and the rest of the family at home, eating dinner, participating in evening activities and eventually going to bed. The tow stories are shown side by side. Of course as Harry and the family get up in the morning, Daddy appears happily home to spend some time with his family.

This is a wonderful book to share with children who might have a parent who works shift work and leaves as they come home from school. The illustrations are full of action, showing a loving family and a hard working Daddy. There are a lot of details in each picture that can result in some discussion. A great book for a family, school or public library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley. ( )

Good Morning Harry, Goodnight Daddy is an enjoyable story that simultaneously follows Harry's Dad as he heads off to his night job and Harry and the rest of his family as they prepare for bedtime. It is a great book to show children the concept of shift work and may help to explain why a parent isn't always home at night. The nightly routines of both both Harry's dad and Harry evoke a feeling of familiarity and comfort. The soft watercolor illustrations are beautifully done and quite detailed and the writing has a lyrical feel to it. I think my grandson will enjoy reading this book with his grandma! ( )
