This book was entertaining as well as quite useful. It has tips on how to preserve older aprons and even patterns included in a folder in the back of the book, so you can make your own. Also included are recipes to make while wearing the new apron you created. ( )I enjoyed this unique book. I love collecting aprons, so it was fun to read more about them. It was nice to have some actual patterns included so readers can make their own aprons. I was hoping this book would go in depth on apron history but it's more of a high level view. Great pictures of some vintage aprons throughout although I was hoping for more of those too. I did enjoy the little bios of people and their aprons, and was pleasantly surprised to find actual patterns included in the book. I enjoyed the patterns and the historical information in this book, but the author's tone was very off-putting. So much seemed to be in a smug tone of voice that it destroyed my enjoyment in the book. Love this book. It is a great combination of anecdotes, history and instruction. I've made one apron so far. Aprons take us back to our favorite place¿hearth and home. Vintage aprons help us remember home and family the way they used to be, while bright and sassy contemporary aprons confirm that nesting is all the rage. Actress and trendsetter Julia Roberts has a closetful of vintage aprons. Celebrity custom-made apron auctions have become an annual event for several popular charities in the past few years.
The Apron Book provides full-color photos of new and vintage aprons from the author's collection, patterns for four basic apron styles and myriad variations, recipes, tips on collecting and preserving vintage aprons, and heart-tugging stories from the author's traveling apron exhibit. The book also explores the heyday of aprons and looks at the various roles aprons still play when worn in the kitchen, around the house, by the backyard grill, on the job, and for special occasions.
Warm and inviting¿but like an apron quite practical!¿this book is a celebration of a great American icon and reminds us of what we loved about the people who wore them.
